OUR VISION

Guyana growing influence in global stature is showing massive strength in its extractive industries and its port networks. With accelerated development of the country infrastructure, development of key Shipping ports are equally developing at a fast rate. High demand for port space, berthing and docking is becoming increasingly difficult as all the major ports have become saturated with demands. With a created hub for investors and investment alike, windows of opportunity to position within Guyana growing economy is getting slim. However, the most important aspects of the entire economic rise in Guyana, is access to shipping ports. More so, acquisition and control of shipping ports to facilitate imports and exports. This will not only cater for the Guyana requirements, but provide the network of logistics networking with Brazil, thereby creating a shipping Hub, allowing Northern Brazil to access shipping ports for more efficient and cost effectiveness.

ABOUT US

NORTE PORT INC. is located in one of the most strategic in south of the Demerara River, with our port being 50 meters from ships the channel. This gives the port greater access to deeper draft thereby allowing the berthing of larger vessels. The Demerara River in Guyana is best for ships due to its narrow and deep channel, which allows for the navigation of larger vessels. The river's width and depth enable oceangoing vessels to traverse up to Linden, while smaller vessels can reach up to Malali. The river's estuary is narrow, and the flow rate is rapid, maintaining a 6-to-7-meter-deep draft. This allows access to most preferred vessels. Norte Port was once a major shipping port in the early 1990’s with a mere 15km from the next 3 major ports in the city.              The company that owned the port at the time was DIDCO. They were a major importer and exporter of soya and grains. This company had expanded in to many areas including milling and had grown to become one of the largest commercial businesses in the country at the time, until its closure in December 2011.NORTE PORT INC. acquired the Port in 2021. Since the acquisition, we are redeveloping the port to reposition it as a major port. However, one of the major factors that had prevented the port to function effectively, was the Demerara Harbor Bridge. This Bridge created much interruption with the free flow of large vessels for many decades. This was due to the retraction aspect of the bridge. As of 2025, a new bridge was constructed and it will allow for vessels to traverse uninterrupted.  The new bridge will be a fixed 2.65-kilometre, four-lane, high-span, cable-stayed structure across the Demerara River, with the width of the driving surface being about 23.6 meters. The bridge, which features a bicycle lane, will bring an end to closures to vehicular traffic with a 50-metre fixed-high span to cater for the free flow of vessels uninterrupted. The river will be dredged along a 13.5-kilometre stretch to accommodate large vessels. This represented a major achievement for shipping ports and company alike. The bridge is slated for a completion and opened on 5th October 2025.
